1) LISTEN! Members from your Body Fitness Exercise calsses have to feel they belong and are needed. One way to convey acceptance of people’s ideas is by simply listening. Listening communicates the message that their thoughts are valued and their inputs are significant. It answers the very basic need to belong and provides a sense of importance.
2) BE ENTERTAINING. I hear so often members from the fitness club comment in the feedback form about a “boring” instructor. I don’t imagine many of you reading this think that you’re “boring”. The truth of the matter is ALL OF US should work to be more entertaining in our classes.
BE A SUPER STAR! Be funny! Get Louder! Be silly! Be over the top! Smile…a lot more! Use performance facial expressions. You are a performer on stage. No matter how over-the-top you feel, the outcome is a more entertaining, fuller class!
3) MEMORIZE NAMES. A name to that person is the most beautiful sound in the world. Keep a small notepad with you to write down participants names and a short physical description to help you remember. Glance at this list before your classes.
4) USE NAMES WHEN YOU TEACH. “Nice job Kyan”. Be careful not to keep using the same 2 0r 3 names each time. Make a point to use at least two new names each class.
5) START A SOCIAL NETWORK OR AN E-MAIL GROUP. Announce to your members that you would like for them to sign-up for your e-mail list or any social networking site like Facebook, Myspace, friendster and etc. Use the list to pass along positive uplifting messages, remind members of gym closing, special events and occasions that you will have a subsitute. Use your list once or twice a month, not more.
6) ARRIVE 10 MINUTES EARLY! Arrive with sufficient time to learn details about the members who take your workouts exercises class. Take an active interest in your members. Each one has their own unique story.
